Real Estate Transfer Tax
Anyone buying a home in Harwood Heights must pay a Real Estate Transfer Tax. The fee is $10 per thousand - or 1% of the purchase price. Please refer to the Real Estate Transfer Tax Requirements (below) for specific information regarding the sale of a home, the seller and buyer's responsibilities, the scheduling of inspections, and the scheduling of a final water reading. The buyer must provide the following: the original deed, which can be signed or unsigned (the transfer stamp must be affixed to the original deed); the Harwood Heights Real Estate Transfer Declaration (below); and the State of Illinois Transfer Declaration (My Dec). Payments must be made with a bank check, attorney's check, credit card (3% fee), or cash. (no personal checks) Make checks payable to: Village of Harwood Heights.

Harwood Heights Real Estate Transfer Declaration
For an Exempt Real Estate Transfer, the cost is $50. You must provide the original deed and complete a Real Estate Transfer Declaration form (above) and a statement of grantor/grantee form. (no final water reading is required) Payments can be made with a personal check, credit card (3% fee), or cash. Make checks payable to: Village of Harwood Heights.
