Current positions available:

Building Department Administrator
The Village of Harwood Heights is seeking a full-time Building Department Administrator to coordinate the activities of the Building Department.  These activities include, but are not limited to: scheduling inspections; issuing permits; maintaining department records; and coordinating planning and zoning hearings.  Applicants must be familiar with building codes and have experience with Microsoft Office programs.  Must have good organizational and customer service skills.  An undergraduate degree is desired - however, comparable life/work experience and education will be considered.  Applicants must have at least two years of experience working with building/zoning documents and procedures.  Fluency in Polish or Ukrainian is a plus.

Building Dept. Administrator Job Description

Pre-Certified Police Officer - Full Time
The Village of Harwood Heights Police Department will be accepting applications for the position of Pre-Certified Police Officer.

The Harwood Heights Police Department is a full-service agency that is a member agency of the Major Crimes Assistance Team (MCAT), Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System (ILEAS), and Northern Illinois Police Alarm System (NIPSA) - which consists of mutual aid access, emergency service team officers, and mobile field force officers.  The Police Department is heavily involved in training so officers can reach their full potential within the agency.  The Department has committed much of their staff to these partnerships because they are professional organizations that can assist them greatly in major incidents and investigations.

Starting Pay $69,462 - $92,206 (Depends on Experience)

(4% increase pending)

You must meet the following minimum requirements: 

  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Driver’s License:Must possess a valid Driver’s License at the time of application with the ability upon time of hire to obtain an Illinois Driver’s License.
  • Age Requirement: Must have attained their 21st birthday by the last date for filing applications (02/08/2024).  Applicants must be thirty-five (35) years old or younger at the last date for filing applications (02/08/2024) and at such time as the final eligibility list is posted.
  • Education:Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.
  • Experience: At minimum, applicants must possess a full-time State of Illinois Law Enforcement certification (issued by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board) and currently serve or have served within six (6) months prior to the application deadline (02/08/2024) as a sworn officer for an Illinois municipality or the Illinois State Police.  At least two years of law enforcement experience required.
  • Character: Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character as described in State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.
  • Testing: Must be able to successfully complete all phases of testing which may include but not limited to: background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological examination and medical examination, etc.
  • Ability to Furnish: Copies of the following, to the extent applicable: a resume; professional licenses; training certificates; naval or military service board and discharge papers (DD-214/Copy 4); documents confirming work experience; birth certificate; college transcripts; last two employee evaluations; two police reports demonstrating best work and any other employment related material as requested or required.

MCD Data & Records Management Clerk (ECT) - FULL-TIME
The Municipal Consolidated Dispatch (MCD) is currently seeking a highly motivated, creative, and detail-oriented individual for the position of Data and Records Management Clerk. This is a newly created position for the organization.  MCD is a consolidated 9-1-1 dispatch center serving the Villages of Harwood Heights, Norridge, Schiller Park, and the Norwood Park Township Fire Protection District.

Hourly Wage: $24.00 - $27.00 DOQ
Position Type: Non-Sworn / Hourly / Non-exempt

The Municipal Consolidated Dispatch (MCD) center located in Harwood Heights, Illinois serving the Villages of Harwood Heights, Norridge, Schiller Park, and the Norwood Park Township Fire Protection District is currently seeking qualified dynamic people for the position of full-time Emergency Communications Telecommunicator (ECT). MCD dispatches police, fire, medical and all staff are cross-trained.

Starting Salary (No Experience):  $52,000 Annually – Completion of Training $53,040
With Experience Range:  $57,844 up to $62,500
