Mayor Arlene Jezierny Bio

My parents and I have called Harwood Heights our home since 1960. I am a graduate from Madonna High School and attended classes at both Triton and Wright Colleges while maintaining a full time job. I also acquired job related certifications in marketing and insurance-related courses as part of my continuing education for career advancement.

I have worked for a top international insurance corporation for the last 37 years earning a title of Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Sales Promotion and responsible for managing employees, budget planning, product promotions and convention coordinator to world-wide destinations.

I participate in several charitable and community organizations such as Easter Seals, Cancer Society, Juvenile Diabetes, Rotary Club, Resurrection Auxiliary, Harwood Heights -Norridge Chamber of Commerce, Red Hat Society, Polish Museum and mentoring for Ridgewood High School students. In 1988, I was elected and honored to serve as alternate delegate for the 14th Congressional District in the Presidential campaign.

My participation in village activities began with volunteering for special events. In 1985, I was appointed to the Zoning Board of Appeals and served as a member and chairperson for 14 years. Appointed to fill a vacancy on the village board in 1999, I was elected Village Trustee in 2001 and served in that capacity for 8 years until 2009 when I was elected as Mayor.

During my tenure as Trustee, I have served on and chaired several committees. As part of our Village team, some of my proudest accomplishments include the completion of the Oriole Avenue flood control and detention project, the correction of an EPA problem on Olcott which led to an inter-governmental agreement with Norridge and a complete street project. I obtained grants for public improvements for streets, sewers, alleys, lighting and sidewalks and recently obtained the acquisition of two new Village buses through grants.

As an elected official I feel it is important to be dedicated to serve a community and its residents; to share in the concept of working with others; and, most important, the willingness to listen. My past history brings forth management skills, project accomplishments, and community dedication - and I look forward to using my experience to guide our community to greater "heights." Working together will bring a better tomorrow as we are a nation to share, to strive, to learn, and to fulfill.
