The Village of Harwood Heights applied for and was awarded a PARC grant from the State of Illinois in the amount of $2.165 million for the development of a Recreation Center. The Center was to be constructed in the warehouse between the Village Hall and Police Department. Its final design was based on several meetings with Village residents in the spring of 2018, and construction began shortly thereafter. The Center was completed in December 2018 and the Village held on open house that same month for residents to see the new facility. It officially opened in mid January 2019.
The Recreation Center has a walking track, fitness room, yoga/exercise room, and areas for children, teens, and adults to gather. Recreational activities will be conducted by members of the Village's Youth Commission. Other activities such as yoga, dance, and fitness will also be offered - as well as cooking demonstrations, sports activities, movies, and various other programs for children, teens, adults, and seniors.
In addition to activities and programs, the Center also has two rooms that are available to rent for parties and/or other social gatherings. (see below for more information)
