Trustee Demetrios Mougolias

My family moved to
Harwood
Heights in 1991 when I was a teenager. My wife, Lisa, and I decided to live in
Harwood
Heights because we knew this was the place we wanted to raise our two young daughters.
I attended
Ridgewood
High School but my real desire was to own my own business. My family’s jewelry business provided my first opportunity for success and I earned my certification from the Gemological Institute of America. I later expanded by business interest into real estate developments and currently own and operate Twins Gyros on Harlem Avenue in
Harwood
Heights .
A family tragedy made me realize the importance of balance between business success and giving back to your community. My family founded and endowed the George Mougolias Memorial Foundation which gifts college scholarships and supports other charitable organizations. I have served as President and Treasurer of the foundation.
Always ready to enhance the economic climate of the village, I am one of the founders of the
Harwood Heights Chamber of Commerce and currently serve as the Vice President. Eager to contribute my business insights and energy to the village, I was elected as Trustee in 2004 and re-elected in 2009. I have been a member of several standing committees, participated in police negotiations and currently chair the Public Health and Safety Committee.
I recognized my accomplishments in business and as Trustee are based on my willingness to share my ideas, strategies and resources with others. As your Trustee, I believe in strong commitments with good work habits and will continue to strive for a better community in which we all live.
