On Friday August 22, 2014 beginning at approximately 11:00 P.M. and lasting until 3:00 A.M. the Harwood Heights Police Department will be conducting a roadside safety checkpoint in the 4700 block of Harlem Avenue. The checkpoint will coincide with the Illinois Department of Transportation’s “Labor Day Crackdown” campaign. The crackdown is part of the statewide, Labor Day Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket effort.
The checkpoint is funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation, National Highway Safety Administration, and administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.
Our goal is to emphasize highway safety, to increase seatbelt usage by motorists, to promote the importance of safe travel, to deter/detect alcohol usage when driving, and to reduce the number of traffic crashes on the roads in the Village of Harwood Heights. We will employ a zero tolerance approach. Through enforcement tactics, and media awareness, efforts will be made to accomplish these objectives and change the behavior(s) of those who are in noncompliance.
This is the second roadside safety check the Harwood Heights Police Department has conducted in 2014 with the first one being during the “Independence Day Crackdown”.
