FIRST WOMAN CORPORAL APPOINTED
BY 1ST WOMAN MAYOR OF
HARWOOD
HEIGHTS

At the February 12, 2009 Harwood Heights Village Board Meeting, the village board concurred with Mayor
Margaret Fuller ’s appointment of Officer
Jolanta Smith to the position of Police Corporal. Officer Smith was nominated and recommended for the promotion by Chief Martin Podosek along with the support of the lieutenants and sergeants of the police department. Chief Martin Podosek reported in his recommendation that “
Jolanta Smith has shown to be an extremely dedicated hard working professional and committed to this community in all aspects. Officer
Jolanta Smith involved herself in ongoing training and developed the necessary skills as a certified juvenile officer, school resource officer, certified breath test operator, and senior citizen liaison,” he said.
Officer
Jolanta Smith has been with the Harwood Heights Police Department for over eight years. She is the first woman to be promoted in the Harwood Heights Police Department and has been honored numerous times for her outstanding work when it comes to impaired driving enforcement and receives annual recognitions. She is called upon by residents locally and by police depts. in other villages for Polish/English Translation.

Harwood
Heights ,” said Mayor
Margaret Fuller , the first woman to be elected Mayor in the Village’s 62 year history.
